On the Spot - hizuku Tsukishima, a 14 year old high school girl notices "Seiji Amasawa" on all the check cards one evening in a library. The following day Shizuku meets up with her friend Yūko Harada. In the library she sees the same name again and asks the teacher. The teacher tells her to ask the older ones. Shizuku rendezvous with Yuko and presents her the sample of the song Shizuku has been writing for graduation. Yuko mentions of the love let, but already likes another classmate – Sugimura. On her way back home, Shizuku abruptly realizes she left her back behind. She hurries back there to a find a boy of the same age reading it. He hands it to her, they talk and calls her song "corny" which leaves her feeling irritable for the rest of the night. Shizuku's sister Shiho gets home and tells on her for slacking off on her daily chores. The following day, Shiho tells Shizuku to give their father his lunch at the library. On the train heading there, Shizuku sees a lone cat. When it gets off at Shizuku's station, she decides to stalk it. It stops at an antique shop, where she sees the statue of a cat in formal clothing. The owner of the shop, Nishi-san, informs her his name is Baron Humbert von Jikkingen. He also shows her a recently restored Grandfather clock, that tells a tale of the King of the Dwarves and a Fairy Queen. Shizuku is in awe, considering the shop a place where stories begin. Inspired by Seiji's utter determination to realize his own dream, she writes a story about the feline-shaped sculpture coming to life.

From above a dragon dives down chased by another dragon, and they fought until the other one dies. Back in the kingdom of Earthsea a fever spread across the land and was brought to the attention of their King. On the Spot - This Anime movie is like a messed up version of Hannah Montana. The story is about a J-Pop idol name Kirigoe Mami, who is a member of a singing group named "Cham." They were very popular and successful in this field of the entertainment industry, however, Mami decides it is time to move on to acting. As if switching careers was not hard enough, Mami suddenly gets a call from one of her crazy fans shortly after she announces her separation from Cham. This was the point when problems started to surface one by one. This Anime movie is kind of a psychological thriller with a lot of drama, blood and nudity involved in it. It is a must see for anyone who can handle it. Enjoy!

Final Fantasy - The Spirits Within

On the Spot - This movieset on an alien-infested Earth in the year 2065. It was released prior to the infamous Advent Children Movie. The remaining humans live in "barrier cities" all over the world and attempt to free their planet from the Phantoms, an alien race. The only hope for the planet comes from the scientist Aki Ross and her mentor, Dr. Sid, who have a plan to destroy the Phantoms without damaging the planet, but a general named Hein is determined to use the Zeus space cannon to destroy the Phantoms—even if it means destroying the Earth in the process. While the film does carry the name Final Fantasy, it is only vaguely thematically related to Square Co.'s popular Final Fantasy series of games. However, Dr. Sid's Gaia Theory, relating to a lifeforce within the planet to which spirits belong, is highly reminiscent of the Lifestream/Mako in Final Fantasy VII. The plot, characters, and storyline were all created specifically for the movie although the character of Dr. Sid does continue the games' tradition of having a character named Cid appear in most Final Fantasy games, despite the Doctor's name being spelled with an untraditional "S". Though this movie is not as graphically technological as Advent Children, the story behind it gives you a considerably amazing viewing experience. Enjoy!

Grave of Fireflies

On the Spot - Nominated as one of the top animated movies of all time, Grave of Fireflies tells a story of Japan towards the end of World War II. If you are looking for a slash and dash and severe a certain limb off and scream out the top of your lung kind of fun, then you are looking at the wrong movie. Grave of Fireflies dig much deeper than that, and I highly recommend it to get a differing view of the tragic second world war. Its plot is the poignant tale of the relationship between two orphaned children, Seita and his younger sister Setsuko. The children lose their mother in the firebombing of Kobe, and their father in service to the Imperial Japanese Navy, and as a result they are forced to try to survive amidst widespread famine and the callous indifference of their countrymen (some of whom are their own extended family members). Enjoy the awesome story time :D

Spirited Away

On the Spot - This is among those movies that seem boring at first look, but when you actually watch it, you find out the great elements and depth of plot associated with it. Spirited Away is a movie centered around a whiny little kid named Chihiro. The initial scenes are quite boring, establishing the base of the story as a family moving to a new place is shown having the usual conversations and problems tied with it. Chihiro particularly did not want to move and made it as annoying as possible for her parents while on the commute to the new place. She's well on her way to being like that weird kid in class who breathes really really loud. On their way to the new house they seem to have been mysteriously led to an abandoned amusement park. Chihiro, her dad, and her mother enter the the park. They notice a restaurant filled with newly cooked food - very tempting. Chihiro's parents decided to do eat now pay later and started to dig in. This was when things started to go wrong. Chihiro meets this strange boy while strolling around, and warns her she should leave before night time. However, when she comes back a terrifying scenes of her parents shocked her as she sees their bodies have turned into pigs. Like a quickening the entire amusement park becomes filled with mystical and dark figures and she had no other choice but to run. What will happen next? Watch and find out. This movie is recommended for anyone with a pulse.

Karas the Prophecy

On the Spot - The best word to describe this anime movie is majestic. The feel of the overall atmosphere is a mixture of Gundam Wing meets Samurai X meets a can of whoop-ass. With hybrid animation with CGI, the lighting effects and action scenes deliver astounding adrenaline-pumping action. The initial scenes are very eye-catching, showing two extremely mobile planes able to transform into Katana-wielding robots. A lot of broken windows and flaming objects are seen as the two enter a crowded city. The plot of the movie consists of a man determined to recovered all the body parts of his murdered lover. In my opinion creepy, but lets just go with it. He tracks down mikuras and slaughters them to recover the so called lost body parts. In the meantine, however, while still on his quest, he uses those body parts and assemble them into a powerful katana. The show maintains a serious tone and never indulges in slapstick, face faults, or super deformed characters. It avoids heavy expositions. Dialogue tends to be short and viewers have to infer what is going on based on very little presented information. The team had left out substantial amounts of information from the show, printing them in a booklet of the final DVD package. If you love robots, and if you love katanas, this might be the perfect movie for you. Cheers!

On the Spot - This is an incredible movie starting with the beautiful animation and sweetly realistic lighting effects of the background and its characters. This movie is divided into three episodes; Okasho, Cosmonaut, and Byosoku 5 centimeter. Centering around the life of a kid named Takaki, Akari and Kanae, this movie relates to the experiences of many who find a certain someone whom they feel a deep connection to, and due to a series of unfortunate events drifts apart and moves on with their own lives. The essential concept of this is movie is the emotions felt, as the characters drift apart and their inner pain when the person they have feelings for gets farther from their grasp, since almost every person has felt the same thing for someone they know at a certain point in their life. I know it seems like a lot of "drama" and usually a lot of people go for the bam bam boom boom and then something explodes while the main characters run away in an ultra super cool slow motion scene making you want to yell Sparta!, but once in a while its always nice to keep in touch with the marshmallow in you and let your sensitive side enjoy your movie seat. Touche :D

Appleseed Movie 1 and Ex Machina

On the Spot - One of the first things you would notice about this Anime movie is the fact that it is rendered using a combination of traditional animation and Computer Generated Graphics. In a way, the initial scenes resembles the feel of a first person shooter. Like a combination of The Matrix, Ghost in the Shell, and Metal Gear Solid 4, Appleseed offers the audience a lot of action and cool slow motion scenes while combating unidentified enemies seemingly made of half-biological and half-mechanical bodies. The primary character Deunan, an attractive young woman (though they seem to over-rate her looks) is a legendary soldier who fought the Third Wold War. This World War almost brought the world to its destruction, and has ended quite some time ago. Deunan, who probably forgot to check her emails or her Iphone, didn't know that. So she was fighting for nothing the last few years. But I have to say, its some good cardio, she has an amazing body. She should start a weight loss program like Taebo... Anyways getting back on topic, after the Third World War a Utopian society has emerged, Olympus. It is virtually the perfect society. Deunan meets her long lost boyfriend Briareos, and is shocked by the news that the majority of his body is now mechanical. Though she probably felt relieved that certain parts of him are still human flesh. Everything seemed right until they find out that Deunan possesses the "Appleseed," a data of immense impact to the overall fate of mankind. This is great movie to entertain yourselves for a while. Hold on to your socks, because you might lose it. Enjoy!

Appleseed Ex Machina - With astounding Cell shaded CGI graphics, Appleseed Ex Machina amazes you with great physics and realistic lightning. It sort of reminds me of Gears of War in a way, except the characters are not 300-pound steroid junkies with veins popping out of their eye lids. As a matter of fact, the main character, Deunan, would easily be a ten. Not, only is she gorgeous, she is really good when it comes to killing people. Isn't she great :D You'll know your first date didn't go well when your brains are on the pavement. Anyways, back to the plot of the story. Year 2135. Following World War Three, which was a non-nuclear war that killed half the world's population, the city-nation of Olympus stands as a beacon of hope in a world of chaos and conflict. The utopian metropolis is governed by Gaia, a vast artificial intelligence, and administered by genetically engineered humanoids known as bioroid, whose designer DNA suppresses strong emotions. With bioroids being half of its population, peace and order are easily maintained. Follow Deunan and her cyborg-boyfriend Briareos in their crazy action-packed adventures. You adrenaline testosterone pumped junkies will love this bullet-ridden movie as much as a lesbian riding a mechanical bull while holding the Olympic Torch. Enjoy!

Sword of the Stranger

On the Spot - This movie is like Samurai X meets Afro Samurai meets Lassie. The beginning scenes are very exhilarating where a young boy named Koutarou runs away with his dog Tobimaru, and right away the movie switches to a scene showing mysterious men in crimson red capes riding down the road with a couple of merchants. It would seem they were hired to protect that caravan from bandits. Surely enough, bandits soon spot them - their red capes certainly didn't help. The bandits go to their positions by the cliff and literally rained the caravan with arrows. Now the cinematography of this movie added some bit of dark humor into the cut scenes as it seemed to suggest hilarity despite the obvious death violence and gore surrounding the situation. A lot of the weak looking characters died immediately (like they always do) while surprisingly despite the seemingly inescapable arrows, all the men in mysterious red coats survive. This is when things start to get really exciting - the most skillful of the those men, Rarou, charges at the bandits and wipes them out single-handedly with incredible ease. They were no match, and it somehow irritates him that there is no one strong enough to give him a decent fight. He would have broken more sweat if he took a dump upside down. Meanwhile Koutaru and his dog Tobimaru meets a wandering rounin named Nagashi. It soon becomes evident that the mysterious men are after Koutaro as they were attacked out of nowhere. Nagashi helps them and he is eventually hired as their bodyguard. This is an amazing Anime to watch especially for the action-oriented individuals who wants some awesome samurai duels and gut wrenching scenes. Enjoy :D

On the Spot - Widely acclaimed as the pinnacle of anime classics, Akira is usually seen at the top of most anime review sites. And that is not because it starts with an "A." Set at the a post-world-war-III era, Akira starts off by giving the audience a glimpse of a Japan ravaged by the war. According to hearsay, the war was started by an "unknown force" which escalated to a world war. For such a single force to trigger a world wide conflict is a phenomenal feat. You could only guess what kind of a force it is... And no its not Oprah. This generation, however, is ravaged by carnal youths, and gangs of all kinds. There is a kid named Tetsuo who runs into a strange boy who apparently was a part of a military experiment called Akira. And you know that military experiments always go wrong, hence, The Incredible Hulk, Spiderman, and that other movie with a really weird kid...with a really weird haircut... Anyways this is acclaimed as the best anime movie of all time. Check it out and see if it lives up to its reputation. Enjoy!

Final Fantasy the Movie - Advent Children

On the Spot - If you remember the playstation one days where everyone would go Wow whenever they would see a pixelated character do some amazing flashy moves while using their box-like legs to jumps and run, then you would probably remember Final Fantasy VII. The infamous game that made RPG history as you control Cloud Strife in the mystical final fantasy world battling monsters that actually wait for their turn before they strike. It awesome. Now a few decades later here we are and somewhere around 2006 or 2007, they made the remake called "Final Fantasy VII Advent Children." The graphic aura are superb compared to any other CG movie ever made before. The movie has breathtakingly huge Galamoths chasing Cloud and his friends while they try to prevent three mysterious biker dudes from destroying the world. The fighting scenes are amazing, a definite must-see for any anime fan.

On the Spot - Following the dark path of a dunpeal hunter named "D" this story is not for those who get nightmares easily. Its a story about vampires, demons, succubi, and dark entities better left unsaid. Its predecessor, the first vampire Hunter D movie, was acclaimed as one of the greatest anime vampire movies of all time. It all starts when the daughter of a rich townsman gets kidnapped by a count vampire, and hires "D" for millions of dollars worth of gold. He had unprecedented reputation. He takes the deposit, gets on his "pimped out" horse and heads out to save the damsel in distress. Little did he know that there are is way more trouble in store for him. This is a rare movie, and the first one is ever rarer. Enjoy.

On the Spot - Just to warn you, in the beginning of this video there is a really annoying music video that plays out of nowhere. I have no idea why its there, but you'll just have to bear with it for a while, and try to lower your speaker volume. Once the actual movie begins, you are introduced to a frightening world of strange creatures. Everybody has ways to survive in this tough world, however, there is one thing that one should never do. Wander into the territory of a vampire that lived for more than a millennium. It is said that vampires' powers exponentially increase as they get older. "D" a wandering vampire hunter meets this woman who'd been bitten by a count and is hired to eliminate him. And guess what else the woman offer in exchange for his services? Well, you'll just have to find out for yourself. Despite the age old graphics style and animation, the plot and the unique aura of the movie easily ranks it among the greatest animated vampire movies of all time.

The movie starts out in this beautiful kingdom living peacefully. One day the prince of the village Ashitaka encounters a revolting figure in the forest killing animals. It was the demon boar god heading straight for the village. Ashitaka kills the demon, but unfortunately acquires a curse mark from his injuries. And the story goes on from there. This movie is highly recommended.
